Yes. Auto transport is its own class and not every carrier wants it, so we ask what you actually run: open or enclosed, how many cars, and whether you work auctions, dealers or private customers.

What this operation usually hauls
Other people's vehicles, on a trailer instead of a hook. Auction buys out of Houston and Dallas, dealer-to-dealer transfers, snowbird and private moves, and the occasional non-runner winched on. Open stinger and wedge trailers move most of the volume; enclosed moves the cars people do not want touched by weather.
What shippers and brokers usually ask for
- Auto liability on the tractor or truck you pull with.
- Cargo written for a full deck of vehicles, not a single unit.
- Physical damage on your own truck and trailer.
- General liability. Brokers, dealers and auctions usually name themselves on the certificate before they release a load.
Coverage names below are general. What your contract actually requires depends on the shipper, the broker and the carrier. Alimar confirms it with you on the call.
What tends to drive the premium
- Open versus enclosed, and the declared value of a full load. Nine used sedans and two exotics are not the same risk.
- Radius and the lanes you run. Local dealer transfers price differently from coast-to-coast.
- Driver records and loading damage history. Most car hauler claims happen on the ramps, not on the highway.
Questions we get on the phone
It depends on what a full deck is worth on your busiest day, not on an average load. Tell us the highest value you would ever have on the trailer at once and we work from there.
Send us the broker, dealer or auction name and where to send it. During office hours we work on it the same business day, and most go out within the hour.
It usually does. Enclosed work tends to move higher-value cars, which changes the conversation about cargo limits. Tell us which you run, or both, and how often.
Loading and unloading damage is common in this work and how a policy responds to it varies. It is worth going through the wording with us before you need it, not after.
Your DOT or MC number, the VINs of the truck and trailer, your driver list with license numbers, and your current declarations page if you already carry a policy.
General answers, not a promise of coverage or price. Alimar confirms your situation on the call.
