Carriers look closely at what you haul, where you haul it and how much of your work is off-road or on job sites. Two dump trucks in different operations can look very different to an underwriter.

What this operation usually hauls
Sand, gravel, dirt, asphalt and demolition debris. Short hauls between the pit, the plant and the job site, often the same loop many times a day. Heavy loads, low miles, and most of the risk on unpaved ground.
What shippers and brokers usually ask for
- Auto liability, on and off the road.
- General liability. General contractors usually ask for it before you enter the site.
- Physical damage on the truck and the bed.
- Certificates naming the contractor as additional insured, sometimes with a waiver of subrogation.
Coverage names below are general. What your contract actually requires depends on the shipper, the broker and the carrier. Alimar confirms it with you on the call.
What tends to drive the premium
- Job-site exposure: backing, tipping and working around equipment and crews.
- Season. Work follows construction, so units sit idle part of the year.
- Unit values and how many trucks run the same loop.
Questions we get on the phone
DOT or MC number, the VIN of each truck, your driver list, and a short description of the work: aggregate, demolition debris, dirt, or a mix.
Send the contractor name, address and anything they want listed. During office hours we work on it the same business day.
That depends on the coverage and on the carrier's wording. It is a common gap on this kind of work, so we go through it with you before you bind rather than after a claim.
Send the license and date of birth for each one. The carrier reviews the record and tells us if the premium changes before the driver is added.
General answers, not a promise of coverage or price. Alimar confirms your situation on the call.
